It’s the season of all things pumpkin spice & crunchy leaves, my friends! Okay, it’s actually just getting down into double digits in Arizona, but a lady can dream, right? To get into the autumn spirit, I decided to try my hand at a reverse canvas with this super cute autumn-inspired design. It was hard to choose what colors to go with, but this brown/metallic gold combo has me over here with all the heart (or leaf-shaped) eyes.
Keep reading for all the tips & tricks for making this standard canvas into this beautiful wall-hanging & head over to the Craftey blog to learn how to add this adorable autumn knockout design; you can even get the SVG cut file as a free download!

Supplies
This project is so easy because it just requires a couple of supplies! For this project, you’ll need:
- A blank canvas–I used 12×12″ canvases.
- Stain–I used a pretty American walnut color
- Heat transfer vinyl in two different colors–I used Color Chimp Luxe vinyl from Craftey in metallic gold & brown.
- Standard crafting supplies such as an exacto knife, parchment paper, weeding tools, pencil, etc.

Instructions
- Turn your canvas over & cut the canvas away from the frame with an exacto knife or box cutter.

2. Once the canvas is released on all sides, carefully remove it from the frame.
3. Set aside the canvas & turn the frame front-side up. Prep your area for staining including covering your surface & opening windows, if indoors.

4. Stain the frame.
Pro Tip: Use a small paint brush to get into all of the small crevices of the frame. This will help to give it a more finished, professional look.

5. When your frame is covered in stain in your desired color, set it aside to dry.

6. While your frame is drying, finish your canvas in your desired design. Check out the Craftey blog for a tutorial on how to create this knockout design, including the free cut file!
7. When your canvas is complete & the frame dry, set the frame carefully over the top of your design & ensure it’s centered.

8. When the frame is in your desired location, use a pencil to lightly trace the canvas around the outside of the frame. This will provide you guidance on where to trim your canvas.

9. When you have traced all of the sides of your frame, you can remove the frame from the canvas. You should be left with a square on your canvas.

10. Cut just inside the marked lines of your square to remove excess material. This will ensure there is no canvas peeking around the edges of your frame.

11. When you’re done cutting, center the canvas on your frame again & superglue it tightly into place.
12. Voila! Flip your canvas & frame over & admire your work! You just used a simple, standard canvas to create a beautiful wall hanging!

The possibilities with this fun method are endless! Using just a few standard crafting items, you can transform a canvas into beautiful home decor.
